The Tail of Emily Windsnap

I am a ferocious reader therefore I don’t think my daughters had much of a choice when it came to reading. Bedtime stories were a daily event. Even when our oldest daughter began to read on her own, she and I still loved reading adventure stories together before bed as we cuddled under the covers. One of the book series that we both truly loved was New York Times best seller Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler, the coming of age story of a girl who finds out she is half mermaid when she is 13 years old...kinda cool! The series is an epic adventure that sweeps you up like an ocean current, taking you out to sea to battle pirates, sea monsters, rescue a ghost ship traveling to Atlantis, escape Sirens and even find your first love.

Emily also captured our hearts because of her struggles and happiness. She was a part of the human and the mer world, yet she was an outcast of sorts in both and strived to belong, to be accepted. Yet, why we love Emily so much is her sense of exploration and her inner  strength that enables her to become a beacon of unity between the two worlds, and a true superhero in our eyes.

Several years later, with a teenager who still loves to read, my own production company, Very Big World Entertainment, has optioned the Emily Windsnap book series for entertainment development. We are just beginning our journey with Emily, a story I am so passionate to share with today’s girls. I’ve imagined and contemplated the nuances of each beloved character, I’ve explored and expanded all the story ideas, deepened the lore and envisioned the mer world in tremendous detail over the years. It really is life coming full circle, as a book that I enjoyed with my children is now in my hands to share with girls around the world.
